The period from April to May is the best for walleye fishing in the Detroit River. During this period walleye is mostly swimming in shallow water.
A 6-7 feet spinning rod with a reel spooled with 6-8 lb monofilament line is the most productive combination for walleye. Minnows and worms are effective for it.
Anglers may fish for lake sturgeon in the Detroit River from July 16 to March 15. Note! There is a catch-and-immediate-release policy for this fish.
